Responsible Investment
Responsible Investing
At St. James’s Place, responsible investing is about considering long-term financial success with a commitment to more sustainable practices. By integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions, SJP are able to offer investments in line with your personal choices.
Responsible Investing = ESG + Engagement
Investing responsibly doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing returns. SJP expects fund managers to actively consider financially material ESG risks and opportunities, aiming for growth in line with your personal choices.
- ESG Integration: Fund managers assess risks and opportunities when making investment decisions.
- Active Engagement: They regularly engage with businesses on ESG issues, and are all signatories of UNPRI (United Nations supported Principles for Responsible Investment), and have been since 2020.
The value of an investment with St. James’s Place will be linked to the performance of the funds you select, and the value can go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.

How Does SJP Invest Responsibly?
SJP sets strict minimum standards for its fund managers, requiring them to align with global best practices:
Signature of the UN PRI:
Signature of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) ensures all fund managers commit to the industry benchmark for responsible investing and are regularly assessed on their approach.
Continuous ESG Monitoring:
SJP closely tracks how fund managers integrate ESG considerations and how they engage with the companies they invest in.

Transitioning to a Lower Carbon Economy
Financial security is important, but so is ensuring a sustainable future. Climate change is a key global concern, and SJP has committed to achieving net zero across its investments by 2050*, as part of the Net Zero Asset Owner Alliance (NZAOA).
- A Net Zero Commitment: Since 2020, SJP has been working towards reducing the carbon footprint of its investment portfolio.
- Transparent Reporting: Each year, SJP publishes the TCFD Product Report, detailing the carbon emissions linked to its investment funds.
*Net Zero commitment is based on Weighted Average Carbon Intensity and includes listed equity, publicly listed corporate debt and real estate only. Rowan Dartington assets are excluded.
